Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn has gone into detail about the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel’s soundtrack and revealed a song that wasn’t able to be included.

What song was James Gunn unable to put in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s soundtrack?

When asked on Twitter if there were any songs that he wanted in the movie that didn’t make the cut, Gunn revealed that the newest Guardians of the Galaxy movie featured the first time he was unable to secure the rights to a song. The song, “Russian Roulette” by Lords of the New Church, was “tied up in legal battles,” meaning the filmmaker was unable to use it in the sequel.

Over 3 movies I’ve gotten every song I’ve written into a script, sometimes after much blood & toil to acquire the rights. The song is “Russian Roulette” by Lords… https://t.co/nm7Nwd8QrB— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) May 6, 2023

Following up on previous questions involving the appearance of the Guardians in the Avengers movies, Gunn revealed that he did personally choose “The Rubberband Man” by The Spinners for the team’s introduction scene in Avengers: Infinity War.
